Photo of the week – It was good to see you…

Posted on Thu June 9, 2016.

This lovely sunset image was taken by David and Margaret Taylor from the sunken photographic hide at Indlovu River Lodge.  David and Margaret are frequent guests and photographers, but this was their first opportunity to capture this stately elephant from the sunken hide!

Over the past year and a half we have seen how the animals have slowly gotten used to the waterholes and the sunken hides beside them.  In the beginning the main visitors were impalas, baboons, jackals, and many species of birds.  Slowly however, the kudus and nyalas started to join, then the buffaloes, and then also the elephants.

Our guests are thrilled with the fantastic angles that the sunken hides provide for close up wildlife photography.  The clear skies in the background is in stark contrast to the “top-down” angles that one would usually get from a game viewing vehicle.  The second advantage is the mirror effect that is produced by the smooth surface of the waterhole.  Both of these are fantastic reasons to book your spot and secure some bragging rights among your fellow photographers!
